Phil S. Dixon, the most interesting AND PIVOTAL American historian of the negro baseball leagues.
Phil has committed his life to uncovering the lost history of the negro leagues and has lived his own historic life while doing so.
So, when one asks “who is Phil S. Dixon”, don’t expect a standard story from an ordinary historian. His story is anything but.
Project Synopsis
In 1980, a series of seemingly random events led Phil S. Dixon to interview Dink Mothell. This would be the first negro league baseball player he would meet and interview. From 1980 through 1990, Phil would go onto interview many former negro league players. He’d also write award winning books on the subject, sign the papers to help establish The Negro League Baseball Museum and so much more.
While Phil continued to uplift the men of the negro leagues and shift not just Black American history, but American history all together, some people along the way didn’t share his enthusiasm. Phil was fighting an uphill battle against the institutionalized indifference of society. From being financially ripped off to death threats, Phil S. Dixon defied the odds to achieve the impossible. Just as those he continues to research and spotlight till this day.
